This song came together without me having to think about it too much. I started with the melody to an old Folk songs called "No More Auction Block" which Dylan does on the bootleg series, vol one. The lyrics are pretty autobiographical

Before Beat Radio I used to play solo acoustic shows a lot, and the thing I like about this sort of music is the way you're not tied to a particular rhythm. You can sort of play around and exaggerate for effect. With this recording I had just finished writing the words and I really just barely knew how to play the song. You can hear the hesitations when I'm trying to find the words. I like the immediacy of documenting that moment, though I might want to re-record this one if I get around to learning it a little better.
